PERMEX DESIGN FILLING SYSTEM TO BOOST PRODUCTION AND ACCURACY FOR BRETT OILS

Brett Oils

The versatility and accuracy displayed by Permex filling systems are now helping to speed production for one f the UK's best known manufacturers of oil based lubricants.

The company has recently supplied four filling machines based on the well proven Panda design to Brett Oils Ltd of Gateshead. The new Permex machines - finished in Brett's distinctive livery of blue and yellow - will be used to increase productivity and accuracy of filling at two Brett Oils plants - one pair operating at the Tyneside headquarters factory and the other at the Lincoln facility.

Brett Oils is a long established family business with a national manufacturing and distribution network for the company's Ovoline brand of industrial and agricultural lubricants.

The Permex team was briefed to design a system capable of filling oils into containers from 20 litres upwards - currently the biggest containers are 205 litre drums positioned on the pallet in groups of four.

Direct on-pallet filling with consistent high levels of accuracy were also essential requirements.

The system developed to meet this taxing specification is based on the standard Panda filling design with a number of special purpose modifications including an extremely accurate flowmeter - with repeatable accuracy of 0.05% by volume - which generates some 30 pulses per litre. The system is also equipped with an improved temperature compensation package and the actual dispensing operation is controlled by a Permex MicroBatch Plus batch controller.

This combination permits oil at any temperature from 10oC - 70oC to be filled at an accuracy of + or - 60ml on each dispensing. In practical terms this means filling the smallest 20 litre containers with almost twice the accuracy required by current Weights and Measures legislation.

Brett Oils also benefits from the "hands off" filling which is an inherent feature of Permex on-pallet filling systems. This allows the operator time to cap the just filled container and make ready the next one while the current fill is proceeding. In this way production levels can be improved while retaining the essential high degree of filling accuracy.

Production throughput also benefits from the ease with which the systems can be changed over to fill different volumes and different grades of oil.
