In certain cases local conditions such as lightning strikes mean power surges can travel along the normal communications wiring and damage the control keypads. The Fibre-optic Transceivers are designed to prevent this from occurring.

NOTE:

Although the transceivers will help protect the control keypads the power supplies must still be protected  using over the counter measures such as filters and surge arresters.
